Another goal reached!

Well it has been another crazy week here in New Zealand. One of my big goals has been to run again, to be honest i am not really sure why as i really used to hate running and found it boring, i mean why run when you can ride a bike!

I have been trying to run on the treadmill at the gym and while i can run with a bit of support from my arms i could never do it never mind how fast i set the treadmill at. The other day i went for a walk and there is this big patch of grass and as i new the grass would help my leg ’spring’ up more i was actually surprised how easy it was after struggling to do it in the gym. At first i just ran about 10 meters at a time, then 20, then 50 and now i am up to about 100 meters at a time which is great and pavement isnt really a problem now either. Sure i doubt i will be running in the next olympics but it is progress and a huge one to check off as far as i am concerned.

Now i try and go for a run every day and it is getting easier all the time, it takes me about 3 steps to get going but once i am going it is fine.  The strange thing is that at first i was just taking small steps but i found the bigger steps i took and the more momentum i carried the easier it was, and hey, being able to run is important as you never know who is going to chase you. It probably doesnt look very pretty but i was joking around with my good friend Shannon who is still recovering from back surgery about how we could have races, sure it would look like two old men chasing each other around but i am sure we would be having fun.

Last week we went for a drive to a place about 40 minutes out of Whangarei called Sandy Bay where i used to spend a lot of time surfing when i was 16 or 17. ok i didn’t really catch many waves, i more just tried not to drown and catch as few waves as possible. Half the problem was that when i bought my first board i wanted to be cool so i bought a short unstable board instead of a longer more stable board, but hey it looked cool on the car!

I have been going to see a chiropractor lately, i have been to one a lot when i was between 8 and 18 and have a lot of time for them. The guy is actually really good and is mainly working on my neck a lot and i have felt some improvement in the way i feel and even the way i talk which is also very interesting.
