A great weekend
Hi
We’ve had the best weekend – Aaron came and stayed with Andrew and me on Saturday night! We packed up the car with all the hardware midday on Saturday and headed 15 minutes up the road to our place in Epsom.
The weekend was very relaxed and we just hung out at home, watched movies and definitely had a few laughs along the way!
Aaron didn’t really use the wheelchair at all and instead used the walker everywhere and sat on the sofa to watch TV and a video and when we had visitors. He’s great now with the walker and it’s giving him so much more independence than the wheelchair. We still need the wheelchair for any distance at all but it’s incredible after all he’s been through to see him come down the hallway!
We had some lovely visits from Dad and Karolle, Andrew’s parents John & Margaret along with 3 year old Keighley and Andrew’s cousin Peter and family. We also today had a visit from our cousin Chrissy which was awesome!
It’s been a great week all round. We had a family meeting at Rehab Plus on Thursday and they have given an estimated time of 8 weeks at Rehab Plus after which Aaron can become an out-patient, at this stage probably in Whangarei (where Dad, Mum & Ray live around 2 hours north of Auckland). The main goals are broadly speaking walking, talking & eating, rather than being fed through a tube. Aaron talked with them about setting tasks for reaching each of these goals and his programs (speech and language, PT and OT) will be based around these goals.
Tomorrow is a nerve conduction test at Auckland City Hospital to see if they can find out more about the lack of sensation in his right arm and leg.
