TBI can result in dysphagia depending on the brain region involved. Dysphagia refers to difficulty in eating as a result of disruption in the swallowing process. Aaron had a videofluorographic swallowing study done today to evaluate his swallowing abnormalities. The study includes a swallowing test with barium-laced thin liquids. He was unable to swallow the [...]
Hi NZ team (and Bryan & Carole, Texan Team)
I arrived back in Colorado 2 days ago to a bit of snow and a big smiling, hugging Clarkie. What a day that was.
Aaron still has a very long way to go in his recovery and is still showing blatant signs of severe brain trauma but he [...]
Not much has changed with Aaron’s condition the past couple of days. Still
experiencing the typical TBI mood swings – sometimes he is confused and
angry, other times he extremely paranoid and delusional. But for the
majority he has been in a better mood and seems pretty lucid. His sister,
Megan, arrived last night and Aaron was very happy [...]
A reminder to check out the Auctions and Events section of the site. We’ve got some new items recently added to the Clarkie benefit Auction, and I’ve been in a fierce bidding battle for a sweet autographed and framed Nicky Hayden picture.
I’m pretty sure Marty at the 12Volt Tavern has more PBR with 100% [...]

Tuesday was a good day for Aaron. TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) is often described as a “roller coaster ride through hell”, which I find to be highly appropriate. I met with Aaron’s neuropsychologist, who has deemed Aaron to be functioning at a Rancho Level of 5 – Confused; Inappropriate Non-Agitated; Maximal Assistance. Aaron’s memories are [...]

Aaron was the best I’ve seen him thus far. He could remember names and context. Plus he was able to retain information from previous days. I even noticed his personality coming through. We were able to hold very short conversations (via the alphabet board). I explained the crash a bit more to him [...]
Phil Horwitz has let me know that he has already run out of the first batch of 40 bracelets I posted a couple days ago. Way to go, Phil and Clarkie fans! Phil already has a second batch of 50 bracelets, these are in the silver/black of Clarkie’s colors. Find out how to get yours.
Update: Tedi sent a revised update with more details on the swallowing issue.
Tedi sent this to me at about 11:30pm last night, I just got it this morning.

The past couple of days have been good ones. Aaron has seems to be doing well with the Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Physical Therapy sessions, each [...]
Today we’ve learned of two new ways to benefit Clarkie and his recovery fund. First, John Burr of The Walnut Room has announced that a portion of all proceeds from food and drink sales during the MRA Election night coming up on Nov 12th will go to the Clarkie Recovery Fund. Read all about it [...]
