Hello from Team Clarkie

Hi everyone…another update from across the ocean.

As Alex mentioned Aaron is now well settled into the Rehabilitation unit.  It took him a little while to adjust to the new environment and despite having another crack (and successful one) at pulling all tubes out, he is doing well and getting stronger every day.  He is also getting cheekier which, although a shock to some of the nursing team, as we all know that’s Clarkie through and through!

He has had two days of intensive physical rehab which has involved getting his muscles working again.  After 3 weeks of inactivity everything is pretty much jelly and he has no strength at all.  The team are amongst other things working on his torso muscles to help him with sitting up, neck muscles, arms and legs.  He’s not able to do any of this on his own just yet but each day he seems to be getting stronger in leaps and bounds.

He has also been quite cheeky with us and with the rehab staff -one of his favourite people there is Will, who I Iook forward to meeting, as he sounds great.  He has also been getting better and better at communication through various ways about what he needs.  Goodness knows that when he is able to talk he will have us all running around in circles!  There is still major head injury stuff that we need to get a handle on, in particular his short-medium term memory, and we wont know the full extent until he is able to talk so that will be the next big mountain to climb.

The thing I have loved hearing is that the determination on his face with every exercise is so intense and he is very, very focused.  Again – that’s our biy back so we love to hear things like that.  It’s been his determination and courage that have got him this far and it will only continue.  Our guy is on a very long road to full recovery but every day is a step forward and we will celebrate every little step forward.

Keep the messages coming as we are reading them out to him.

Love from us all

Megan

Clarkie, Great news to hear you have made it to rehab. Give em hell and keep working hard. You are inspiring me with your ability to overcome this. I look forward to seeing you again and listening to the stories you tell. Get well soon. Keep fighting.
