Aaron’s Update Wed 22nd Oct

Hi team

Aaron came through a second operation and so a second General Aneasthitic in 2 days.  The gall bladder was the suspected cause of the fever (post getting on top of the pneumonia his fever still would not come down).  Gall Bladder infection can happen sometimes when there is an impact on the body like what he has suffered.

They attempted to use some sort of nuclear medical technology which goes up through his liver  to “light up” his gall bladder (excuse my rudimentary medical descriptions…) and check it for infection. That didn’t work so they chose to take it out.

When they extracted it they found that it wasn’t in great shape and he also had a gall stone blocking his liver, hence the nuclear jobby not working, so we hope that they have now found the final source of the evil fever.

So my little bother now has even more holes in him and is going to be in a lot of pain over the next few days as he recovers from a massive 2 days of surgery.  The anaesthetic alone will take a long, long time to get out of his system, let alone the rest of him that needs fixing.

Because of the second round of surgery the doctors have delayed the MRI – as Scott mentioned to Alex, it will possibly be today.  We all really want to tick that box.

Aaron’s eyes are open at times but he’s really knocked around from the surgery sessions so we’re not getting much response from him right now, which is hard as he was quite responsive prior – but it is understandable given the last 36 hours.

Thank you Kelly Rees for your tireless efforts in pulling together such an incredible array of gear for the auction.  Also to your team that have been behind the scenes – I know you have spent hours on this.  Thank you Chris & Lynette Fuller for arranging the up and coming Pumpkin Carving Day (for the Kiwi’s out there, Halloween is very soon and they’re pumpkin mad here).  It sounds wonderful and all the proceeds are being donated to Aaron’s fund – THANK YOU.

Seeing how far he has come it makes me even more aware of how lucky we were that Josh and Glenn were there so quickly.  For those of you who don’t know, Josh and Glenn had to work on Aaron for a full 5 minutes before they brought him back.

Aaron’s wife, Tedi, has explained to me that normally the combination of a massive “blunt force trauma” and cardiac arrest which he suffered results in a zero % chance of survival.  That those incredible men and good friends of Aaron’s actually brought him back to life is unheard of.  If you believe in miracles, this is a whopping big one.  Guys, I am (as we all are) indebted to you for your courageous actions for the rest of my life.  With every twist and turn that the days have brought us we are so thankful that Aaron is here.  You are both very special to us all.

For anyone who is interested the NZ Trust Fund should be up and running on Friday with the link on the right of the home page going straight to the ASB Bank.

Love to everyone at home – especially to Andrew, my rock x

Meg

Thanks so much for the detailed update Megan (and everyone else). It helps us down here in Arizona, as we feel helpless not being able to come up and see him. But with the updates, it feels like we’re there. Thanks. Stay strong!

    Give it hell Aaron!!
