Surgery Over & Aaron OK

About an hour ago we got the news that the surgery was complete and he is fine.  We are beyond words with our feelings…and I can hear the collective sigh of relief out there.  I thank you all so very much for all your wishes, prayers and lighting bolts worth of positive thoughts.  We still have a long way to go but Aaron has fought his way through a big hurdle this afternoon.  Little Scrapper, you win again.

The surgeon (who incidentally did some of her training at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, NZ and wears a greenstone necklace) said the it very long and very difficult.  Hi pelvic ‘fin’ bone was literally in bits and floating around.  It won’t be perfect but it’s a lot better than it was.  She is estimating that he won’t be able to put weight on it for 3 months so it is a long road of physical rehab.

Aaron is now back in his room (fully sedated) and the best part is that the traction contraption is gone, and there seems to be less tubing.  He is actually lying totally flat and looks quite rested.

Once he has had a full night of rest they will do an MRI sometime tomorrow, so a big day ahead in determining back, neck, lungs and brain injuries.  The extent of his brain injuries will be the next step but I really deeply feel with all my heart that he has come so far and he will fight his way through this next hurdle.

Please keep the messages coming as they mean such a lot to us all.

Love from Megan, Raye, John, Scott and especially Tedi
